I first taught art and craft in schools before becoming an adult education tutor after having a career break to bring up my children.
I taught pottery to adults and it was while I was doing this that I was introduced to repouss̷̷é work (pewter embossing) on a 'have a go' day. I became hooked and have continued with pewter work ever since. It's less messy than pottery and can be worked at the kitchen table!
Sheet pewter is made up of 95% tin, 4% antimony and 1% copper. It is very pliable and once worked needs to be mounted onto a stable surface such as wood, metal or glass.
I also run workshops in pewter embossing which can provide an introduction to this satisfying craft.
